Message from the President, Jackie Nelson

Hello everyone, Happy Holidays!

I’m watching our first snowfall of the season while I write this December installment. As I sit and reflect on this past year I say wow, so much has happened. Since March your team of board members has worked very hard planning our educational seminars, our Convention in March, and particularly we have focused our attention on our web presence. We have changed our social media pages, added some, extended and built others. We have essentially rebuilt our website with current up to date material, adding many more images. We have discussed new ways to grow our membership base, and how to appeal to a broader audience of photographers.

I value each of you as members, we value you as associates, we value your presence and consider each of you a part of our photographic family, and friends. I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for valuing our association and for being with us. We are currently working on the final touches of Convention 2018, and our monthly educational programs for the year.  If you have something in particular you would like us to try to bring to the association for a monthly program, speak to one of the board members, we are happy to hear your feedback. Keep a close eye on your email, and our social media pages where you can always find what’s coming up next!

Please be sure to SAVE THE DATES for our March 2018 Convention. Our theme this year is “Put yourself on the map.” Here is a brief look at what’s to come.

Fri- 3/2/18 Image Competition, pizza party, image critique, and a special surprise.

Sat- 3/3/18  Rick Hydran – “Real Estate Photography”

Sat- 3/3/18  Gene Hutnak – “Keep it Simple”

Sun- 3/4/18  Melony Anderson – Business Management, Pricing, finding your inspiration. We have a new committee of folks working hard on our door prizes, sponsorships, raffle items, and silent auction items. Please plan to be with us Saturday evening for the image awards dinner. The speeches are brief, and the food is fabulous! There will also be a drawing for a scholarship to NEIPP!

As we wrap up this year, let’s reflect on what we did well this year, and grab the reins for what we would like to see change for next year. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a blessed and prosperous New Year!

Jackie

Passing of Al Audleman on December 8th

The following is from the PPANE/NEIPP FaceBook page on December 9th: The PPA and PPANE/NEIPP family lost one of it’s own yesterday. Al Audleman passed away unexpectedly, and it is a shock to us all. He was a kind, gentle, giving man, who’s passion for life and photography was evident in all he did. He taught on the state, regional and national level and 1000’s of people’s lives have been touched by him and changed for the better. Al was a friend and mentor to many of us, and will always be remembered fondly.

Message from the President, Jackie Nelson

Dear PPARI members,

The beginning of the fall season is always a busy one for us. Finishing up senior portraits before yearbook deadlines, school portraits, and sports leagues. It’s also a time when the changing leaves means those fall portraits outdoors. I love it! The crispness to the air, apple season, pumpkins and best of all clothes that give you a hug.

We have worked hard this summer, spending time away from family, and taking those extra assignments when really it would have been nice to take a beach day. Enjoy this season, because before long we will be peering through snow covered windows wishing for warmer weather, and wishing the phone would ring! I hope to see you all at our upcoming programs and social events. And I hope each of you plan to be with us at our holiday party!  Happy Fall, see you soon!

Cheers! ~Jackie

Message from the President, Jackie Nelson

The summer months are here. It’s been fairly hot and I know business has picked up for you. One thing I really enjoy about being a PPARI member is, if there is something I need all I have to do is pick up the phone. I have called on colleagues all of which I have met over the years through PPARI. I needed help with a wedding, large family portraits, preschools, high schools, leagues, and sometimes just to bounce an idea off another photographer. I’ve shared techniques, tips and tricks, software advice, camera questions, and how to deal with a particularly difficult client.

I have lent equipment, borrowed equipment, and bought equipment from other members, folks I’m happy to say are my friends. We may be little but we, all 50 of us, have an abundance of knowledge, experience, and true professionalism to share with one another. We are up against many challenges in today’s market that Professional Photographers of years past did not have to try to overcome. We are in a unique field, with great opportunities. Let’s focus on the positives, and be thankful for the phone ringing, and for clients who choose us versus the big corporate stores!

Thanks for reading, see you at the next program.

Cheers! ~Jackie

A little history…

Three generations of Farber family ownership have established Hunt’s as a trendsetter in the imaging equipment industry. Begun as a Malden Center drugstore by pharmacist Solomon Farber and his sons, Hunt’s began building its camera business during the 1950s under the visionary leadership of Solomon’s son, Jack. As interest in photography grew and small neighborhood pharmacies fell victim to big national chains, Hunt’s began shifting its emphasis away from the pharmacy business and into the business of cameras and accessories. By 1992, the pharmacy closed and imaging equipment became Hunt’s primary focus.

Led today by Jack’s sons, Scott and Gary, Hunt’s proudly serves a diverse audience of individual, corporate, educational, and government clients as one of the country’s largest retailers of photographic, video and digital imaging products. As sponsor of the renowned Hunt’s Show and Sale each fall, the company hosts a three-day showcase of the latest trends in photographic equipment for users at all levels. Visit Hunt’s 30,000 square foot flagship store at 100 Main Street, Melrose, or one of its satellite locations in Boston, MA – Cambridge,MA – Hanover, MA – Holyoke, MA – Providence, RI – So. Portland, ME – or Manchester, NH to discover how Hunt’s Photo, Video and definitelyDigital can help you create your own picture of success.
