Message from the President, Deb Bettencourt

Well, Winter has arrived in stunning fashion!

Now we’ve got the first major snowfall out of the way and we can focus on last minute sessions, shopping and social events.  Bring it on!

We are saddened to report that three New England photographers and friends passed away recently.  Our own Raymond Fuller died on November 6th.  Nancy Holowitz from Springfield died on October 25th, and Roland Laramie of Connecticut passed on November 23rd.  As I read their obituaries it struck me how much each of these people contributed to the photographic community.  They taught, they volunteered, they gave back.  If you were fortunate to work with them you know what I mean.  If you have been mentored by another local photographer there’s a good chance they learned from one of these professionals.

As you read this newsletter I hope you’ll take a moment to read about our Un-Convention-al programming in 2020.  We’re excited to mix up the traditional three day conference footprint, while continuing to bring you quality programming and a chance for bragging rights from Image Competition!  Details are being firmed up now.

While wrapping up 2019 I would be remiss not to thank the members who have dedicated time, energy and talent to keeping our Association running by participating on our Board.  Without people who heed the call to Pay It Forward we would not exist.  We always welcome new volunteers, either to fill a Board Position or to help on a particular project or program.  You’ll get so much more than you give when you volunteer.  Reach out to me with questions or ideas.

Happy and Healthy Holidays to everyone.

Thanks!
Debbi

Hunt’s Photo Walk: Sports & Action- College Basketball

Sunday January 19th, 1-5pm • Cabot Center, Northeastern U Women’s Basketball- NU vs. William & Mary. On this walk, we will spend a few hours working on shooting action, proper white balance, panning action sequences, auto-focus for action, and subject development. Basketball is an exciting fast paced sport full of excitement. We will capture the action!

Hunt’s Photo Walk: Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation

Saturday January 18th, 11am-3pm • Waltham, MA. This walk is an excellent chance to photograph the grit of the previous centuries under the Industrial Revolution, and is a chance to work in low-light environments where the lighting sources cannot be controlled and focus on macro photography.
For the bulk of the time, we will explore the interior of the museum, looking for images that tell the significant historic story they offer. If weather allows, we will also photograph on the exterior of the location. Join us for a creative day of looking into the past!
